The Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County, North Carolina (MSD) is soliciting Statements of Qualifications for Professional Land Surveying Services associated with the Weaverville Pump Station Replacement project. This sanitary sewer collection system project will provide additional hydraulic capacity to the Weaverville Pumping System located in northern Buncombe County, NC. The firm selected will provide a survey of the proposed sewer alignment identifying existing property boundaries, topography, river bathymetry, manhole locations and inverts, and other physical features along the route. MSD is a regional wastewater utility serving the greater Asheville, NC area, and serves a population of approximately 125,000 customers. The collection system is comprised of approximately 1,020 miles of pipe (ranging in size from 4-inch to 66-inch in diameter) which convey raw wastewater to MSD's treatment plant on the French Broad River in Woodfin, NC. The Weaverville Pumping System, consisting of the Weaverville Pump Station #1, Weaverville Pump Station #2, and approximately 19,500 linear feet of associated force main piping between Station #1, Station #2, and the District's Water Reclamation Facility, was originally constructed in 1983. Multiple projects have been undertaken over the years to update, enlarge, and repair the stations and force mains. The survey shall be delivered to MSD no later than April 30, 2022 and will be utilized by MSD engineering staff and CDM-Smith staff in the layout and design of the new force main and pump stations. MSD anticipates being able to issue a Notice to Proceed by the end of January 2022.
