Additional information is as follows: (a). The three buildings involved with this work have a wheelchair lift inside which periodically breaks down and limits access to the lower-level wing with designated accessible cells. The fourth has a grade level exit but no means to connect to the rest of the facility. The purpose of the project is to offer an egress in case of emergencies and a backup entry point for the lower level when the wheelchair lift is down. (b). The work includes constructing three ramps, one at Auburn, one at Cord and one at Essex Housing Units. This includes construction of retaining walls, frost porch, catch basins, drainpipe, and railing. A new sidewalk extends from the ramp to an existing sidewalk or paved area.
