Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Cloquet, Minnesota. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
The Department of Natural Resources is seeking bids to create a 100' x 200' gravel parking lot and install two culverts and two approaches at the Cloquet DNR Office at 305 E. Business Park Drive, Cloquet, MN 55720. The scope of this project is to create a 100' x 200' gravel parking lot, supply and install two culverts, and two approaches at the Cloquet DNR office at 305 E. Business Park Drive, Cloquet, MN 55720. Contractor will supply and install an estimated 600 cubic yards (loose measure) of class 5 for this project and 250 cubic yards (loose measure) of pit run material for the gravel pad, culvert install, and approaches. The main gravel parking area is 100'x200'. This will take approximately 550 cubic yards of contractor supplied compacted class 5 material. Approximately 3" of topsoil will need to be removed down to mineral soil. Some of the topsoil may be used on the culvert toe slopes- any leftover top soil can be left in a neat pile on site. The location of the leftover topsoil pile will be agreed upon by contractor and DNR. The mineral soil will be compacted prior to fabric and Class 5 install. Contractor supplied MN DOT Type 4 geotextile fabric will be installed over the compacted mineral soil prior to Class 5 install. Class 5 aggregate will be provided by the contractor, dumped, spread, and compacted across the entire work. The parking lot will be crowned in the middle to shed water to the east and west. 8" of compacted Class 5 will be in the middle/crown of the parking lot and tapered to the east and west at no less than 6" of compacted Class 5 on the edges. The Class 5 will be graded to allow water to run east and west away from the center crown of the parking lot. Two new contractor supplied culverts with appropriate aprons will be installed at locations indicated on the map in blue. Two approaches approximately 20'x40' will be installed over the culverts connecting the new gravel pad with the existing paved parking location to the East. Both culverts will be new 15" diameter, a minimum of 25' long, and metal corrugated. Each culvert end will have an appropriate contractor supplied apron installed on both ends. Approximately 250 cubic yards of contractor supplied pit run material will be used to bring the culvert and approach areas to grade. The pit run material should be compacted prior to install of fabric. Contractor supplied MN DOT Type 4 geotextile fabric will be installed over the pit run fill prior to Class 5 install. MN DOT Type 4 geotextile will be installed after the pit run is compacted. Class 5 aggregate and pit run will be provided by the contractor, dumped, spread, and compacted across the entire work area to a compacted depth of 6". The approximate amount of compacted Class 5 for the culvert/approach area is 50 cubic yards. The new culverts should be installed properly to allow water to flow north in the existing ditch. The toe slopes on each culvert will have salvaged topsoil placed with seed, fertilizer, and erosion control blanket. Side slopes should be no steeper than 2:1. All Class 5 will be to MN DOT specification table 3138-1. The gravel is to be provided by the contractor. MN DNR maintains the right to inspect gravel and pit run source to ensure no invasive species will be spread to DNR site. The Project Supervisor will meet with the successful contractor on site prior to the work being started. *The list of planholders and/or interested bidders is not being tracked by the stakeholders involved with this project.
