The Village of Whiting is inviting bids for the installation of roadway drainage swales in the areas highlighted on the attached project map. All of the shallow drainage swales are to be cut and sloped to a maximum depth of 12 inches lower than the edge of the finished road. The Director of Public Works reserves the right to slightly alter the depths of swales as needed based on the slope and topography of the project area. The drainage swale should then be finished with 2 to 3 inches of screened topsoil, seeded, and mulched. Alternatively, a separate bid line for hydroseeding costs is requested. The Village will determine what finishing method will be utilized after the review of the bids. Additionally, the contractor will be responsible for placing black dirt "backing" where curbs have been installed after the completion of the curbs. Seeding of these areas will be required as part of the project. Questions regarding the project can be addressed by the Director of Public works at (715) 340-7582. The Village of Whiting will be responsible for marking road right-of-ways as well as tree/brush/branch removal as necessary. The Village of Whiting will also be responsible for the adjustment of water valves and manholes present in the proposed project area. The contractor will be responsible for removal of any stumps present in the right-of-way where swales are being installed. The contractor is responsible for any damage to streets, edge of streets, pavement markings, signage, shoulders and driveways. Additionally, the contractor is responsible for damage to private property including, but not limited to, landscaping, amenities, irrigation systems, yard lights etc. on private property adjacent to the right-of-way during the duration of the project. Utility locates, both public and private, are the responsibility of the contractor. Project will be completed in a timely fashion that allows for new vegetation to become established before winter. The Village reserves the right to reject any and all bids, to waive irregularities and informalities therein, and further reserves the right to award the contract to the best interests of the Village of Whiting.
