Site work for a water / sewer project in Blacksburg, Virginia. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The Town of Blacksburg (Town) has observed significant corrosion and associated sediment accumulation and discoloration in the recirculating hot water system at the Blacksburg Motor Company (BMC) building. Water samples were collected from various point-of-use locations in the building. It was determined that the total heterotrophic bacteria (Heterotrophic Plate Count or HPC) at three locations were at/above the recommended USEPA upper limit of 500 Colony Forming Units per milliliter (CFU/mL). The HPC results, along with the observed conditions, are evidence that the building water system has been colonized by microbiological growth to a degree requiring corrective action. The Town is soliciting proposals from qualified plumbing contractors/building water system professionals to clean the building water system to remove the microbiological colonization, sediment deposits and potential biofilm present in the potable water system.
