The County of Berks will retain a PennDOT qualified engineering consultant to provide full time, onsite construction inspection during the reconstruction and utility relocation of County Bridge 56A, located on Spring Valley Road over Bernharts Creek in Muhlenberg Township. Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2022, with a duration of approximately one (1) year. The existing 21-foot single span bridge is a reinforced concrete slab structure originally constructed in 1959. The proposed structure is a 46.5-foot single span spread pre-stressed box beam bridge. The County does encourage responses from small firms, DBEs and firms who have not previously performed work for the County. The County will select one (1) firm for the purpose of negotiating an engineering agreement based on the evaluation of the acceptable Statements of Interest received in response to this solicitation. For the purpose of negotiating a contract, the ranking of firms will be done utilizing the modified selection method which allows selection directly from the Statement of Interest - technical proposals will not be required prior to the ranking. A full technical and price proposal will be required from the selected consultant The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time
