The Allegan County Resource Recovery Program, in an effort to prevent disposal of household hazardous materials that would adversely affect the regions environmental resources, collects household hazardous waste through various avenues. The Resource Recovery Program represents approximately 18 municipalities within Allegan County and collects Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) through a permanent drop-off site at the Allegan County Health Department and through several special collections at host sites. Approximately 33,964 pounds were collected through the program in 2020 and 39,073 pounds in 2021. The Allegan County Resource Recovery Program and local units of government participating in this program typically sponsors four collections on Saturdays in May, June, September and October at host sites in cooperation and scheduling coordination with local municipalities. All work is to be scheduled and coordinated in advance through: Rosemary Graham Resource Recovery Coordinator (269) 686-4559 rgraham@alleganCounty.org All Contractor personnel working on-site shall have appropriate HAZWOPER training, be acceptable to the County, and be trained in the identification of hazardous waste as defined by federal, state, and local laws or regulations; and such materials and equipment as necessary to handle, sort, containerize, label, load, and transport such waste from the Countys service area in a manner conforming to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
