The Ministry of Forests has a property on Crown Land near Hope in Haig for the operation of the Haig Fire Base. The Fire Base zone is located in close proximity with major highways near the town of Hope, in a strategical location for BC Wildfire operations. The Ministry is seeking to develop the fire base and provide sufficient and healthy workspace for the current and projected staffing levels. The current facilities are insufficient in size and aging. Improvements, repairs or demolition shall be required. The current setting does not allow for a common building to manage operations and house crews and permanent staff in an efficient manner. The objective is to provide a new efficient, cohesive, and better working environment for the BCWS staff at the base. The proposed solution is the construction of a new building that will consolidate several of existing building operations and provide a better and more effective workspace. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
