This report presents the results of Eastern Sierra Engineering's (ESE's) geotechnical investigation and pavement design for the proposed California Avenue project. ESE understands the project will include the rehabilitation and reconstruction of California Avenue from the intersection of California Avenue and Arlington Avenue to the intersection of California Avenue and Newlands Circle, (approximately 2,275 feet), in Reno, Nevada. The limits of the project are shown on Figure 1 included in Appendix A. The following scope of services was provided: Located and marked four (4) test pit locations and contacted Underground Service Alert (USA) to notify them of our intent to excavate at the site; Excavated, logged, and sampled four (4) test pits to depths of 3.0 to 4.0 feet below the existing ground; Performed laboratory testing that included particle size analysis, Atterberg limits, moisture content, soils classification/description, moisture/density relationship curves and Resistance value (R-value) testing; and Prepared this report that summarizes field activities, subsurface soil conditions, laboratory testing, traffic data analysis, and pavement design(s) utilizing the 2007 RTC Flexible Pavement Design Manual (here-in referred to as RTC 2007) and the 2021 RTC Structural Design Guide for Flexible Pavement (here-in referred to as RTC 2021). Also included are site plans with approximate test pit locations, test pit logs, plasticity charts, particle size distribution charts, moisture/density relationship curves, R-value graphs and recommendations for roadway grading. This report was prepared for the sole use of the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC), the only intended beneficiary of ESE's work.
