Demolition and site work for a parking garage in Portsmouth, Virginia. Completed plans call for the demolition of a two-story above grade parking garage; and for site work for a 160,000-square-foot parking garage.

Project includes the demolition of the County Street parking garage for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia. The garage is a precast concrete parking garage with roughly 120,000 square feet of elevated structure. The contractor must limit land disturbance to 2,500 square feet cumulative. The objective is to demolish the super structure of the garage and leave the grade level intact. The Work under this Project consists of the demolition of the existing, precast concrete parking garage on County Street in Portsmouth, VA. The parking garage was built circa 1973 and is a three-story building. The garage is roughly 160,000 square foot of elevated precast concrete. All parking is on flat bays with two express ramps on either end of the garage for, one-way vertical circulation. The contractor is to demolish the garage, deck, ramps, offices, and stair/ elevator towers down to grade, leaving the foundations intact, and prepare the site for a surface lot. The surface lot work (i.e. resurfacing of asphalt, striping, signage, etc.) is outside the scope of this contract. This contract is only for the demolition of the parking garage. The contractor shall remove all waste appropriately off site in accordance with all applicable laws and take care when dealing with hazardous materials. A hazardous materials survey was performed, and the report is available for reference in the project manual. Asbestos was found in several elements of the structure. A building permit is required for demolition and all utilities turned off prior to the approved permit. Review the demolition construction documents for additional information.
