Renovation of a municipal facility in Portland, Oregon. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 61,500-square-foot, three-story above grade municipal facility.
The Pioneer Courthouse is the oldest extant federal building in the Pacific Northwest. Located in 700 SW 6th Avenue in Portland, OR the Italianate-style building stands at three stories (with an attic floor and cupola) and is approximately 61,500 square feet. In 1973 the Courthouse was placed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. It is the oldest federal building west of the Rocky Mountains and the second oldest west of the Mississippi River. Completed in 1875, the building originally accommodated the U.S. Post Office, the District Court, the Customs Service, and the Internal Revenue Service. Over time the building has undergone several restoration and rehabilitation projects. The most recent renovation occurred in 2004-2005 when the Courthouse underwent a seismic upgrade.
