Site work and new construction of a transportation facility in Toronto, Ontario. Design plans call for the construction of a 15,000-square-foot, two-story above grade transportation facility; and for site work for a transportation facility.
Development at 2, 4 and 80 Union St for construction of a SmartTrack Station to allow for housing development and growth within the neighbourhood. The station site runs roughly north-south, north of St. Clair, bounded to the north by the HONI corridor (and future Gunns Road Extension), with Union Street directly east, and Weston Road to the west. The station features 4 mainline tracks, 2 side platforms to serve 2 of the 4 Metrolinx tracks, each of which include canopy coverage over approx. 50% of the platform length, enclosures at the top of stairs and elevators, passenger shelters s well as typical amenities such as lighting, public address, digital and static signage, and snowmelt. Also planned, are 2 tunnels to connect each of the platforms to a station building on the east side of the rail corridor + modified main and secondary entrance buildings, which have been optimized to reduce building footprint. Corridor station facilities including 6-bay bus loop to accommodate TTC vehicle and Wheel Trans, a plaza, sidewalk, MUP and circulation space to accommodate all pedestrian and cycling activity, secure and covered cycling facilities, as well as landscaping, street furniture and plantings. TIMELINE: Designs are ongoing. Rezoning approvals are in place. The station is a priority for the city of Toronto for delivery through the SmartTrack Program by Metrolinx. The station will have a significant impact on housing development and growth potential, including future Transit Oriented Communities within the neighbourhood. A construction contract for this station may be announced Q1/Q2 2025. *This is a joint initiative of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto to improve transit for Toronto residents. *Construction cost is unreleased for publication.
