Vancouver Fire Rescue Services utilizes various types of fire extinguishers in their day-to-day operations. Two of the divisions in VFRS are the primary users: Fleet and Equipment Services at Fire Hall No. 1 Public Education offices at Fire Hall No. 10 on the University of British Columbia campus VFRS requires pick up and replacement of discharged extinguishers with fully recharged ones of the same size and type from two locations in the city. Fleet outfits the fire apparatus with ULC-rated portable extinguishers of the 20 # 10-A: 120-B:C dry chemical powder type. Public Education uses quantities of ULC-rated 5# 5-B:C carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher type for hands-on-training classes. Students are trained to be familiar with handling, pulling out tamper seal, and pulling out pin to properly extinguish a fire. The Scope of Work is current as of the date of open date of this RFP indicated in the Summary, but may change or be refined in the course of the evaluation of Proposals or otherwise. Unless otherwise stated, if, and wherever, the Scope of Work states a brand name, a make, the name of a manufacturer, a trade name or a vendor catalogue number, it is for the purpose of establishing a grade or quality of materials, goods or equipment only. It is not intended to rule out the use of other equivalent materials, goods or equipment. If, however, products other than those specified are proposed in any Proposal, the Proposal must explicitly include under the heading "Alternative Solutions" the names of such products and their manufacturers, any trade names and any applicable vendor catalogue numbers, and the City may request that the Proponent provide specific evidence of equivalency. Evidence of quality in the form of samples may also be requested. To the extent that the Scope of Work expresses estimates of quantities or volumes of goods or services expected to be required by the City, the City cannot offer any assurances that such quantities or volumes will in fact be required.
