The City of Lawrence is seeking qualified contractors interested in providing labor, material, equipment, transportation and supervision necessary to safely and satisfactorily construct pedestrian access improvements at Frost School, including replacement of concrete walkways, curb ramps, and stairs, relocation of granite curbing, and a gravel infiltration trench. Scope- - Cement concrete sidewalk will be demolished and replaced from the connection to the Hamlet Street sidewalk to the south corner of the eastern school building. The sidewalk extension along the face of the western building is also to be demolished and replaced. - Granite edging and vertical granite curbing along the asphalt pavement parking areas is to be removed and reset. Supplementary granite edging and vertical curbing are required for damaged sections and at the parking lot expansion. Bituminous curb is to be installed at the monument area at the southern limit of work. A curb break shall be left in the western parking area for the installation of the concrete flume and in the northern stretch of bituminous curb. - Asphalt pavement is proposed in all sawcut areas for granite edging replacement, south of the concrete sidewalk between the two school buildings, and at the parking lot expansion. Additional asphalt pavement is proposed for pavement repair at the existing catch basin at the northwest limit of work. - Two wheelchair ramps are to be installed within the concrete sidewalk, as shown on the site plans, including detectable warning ramps, granite transition curb, and ADA compliant grading. The existing stair connection to Hamlet Street shall be replaced with a concrete ramp, including handrails. The eastern stair connection to the western school building is to be replaced. - Pavement striping shall be installed in the parallel parking and ADA path striped areas affected by the granite edging replacement, as well as in the western parking lot expansion. - Four (4) lamp posts, three (3) "No Parking" signs, and three (3) flagpoles are to be removed and reset in place. Eight (8) concrete light bollards are to be demolished and disposed. Twenty-four (24) bollards and permanently fixed bollard sleeves are proposed throughout the concrete sidewalk, and two (2) removable bollards are proposed at the Hamlet Street pedestrian entrance. A bike rack is to be installed as shown on the site plans.
