Hartford Tunnel Drainage Improvement Project The Hart Tunnel (MP 37) is a two-barrel tunnel constructed in 1914 which carries the Amtrak Springfield railroad line beneath Main Street and Albany Avenue in the City of Hartford. The tunnel is approximately 300 feet in length and a single track runs through the northern barrel. Currently, stormwater runoff in the vicinity of the tunnel is collected in a small pump station located south of the tunnel and conveyed through a series of pipes and temporary hoses to a combined sanitary sewer owned by the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). This project will incorporate the construction of a new pump station and system of pipes to improve the drainage conditions. The new pump station will convey stormwater through a new force main to the Gully Brook conduit located approximately 2,000 feet south of the tunnel.
