Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Indianola, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; water / sewer project; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.

**As of May 31, 2024, the project was awarded to Vanderpool Construction, but the awarded amount is not available.** The extent of work on this project includes all materials, equipment, transportation, and labor necessary to complete the improvement generally described as follows: South K Street improvements includes cement treated subgrade preparation with asphalt pavement from the southern City limits to approximately 350 feet south of West 2nd Ave and subgrade/subbase preparation with PCC pavement from approximately 350 feet south of West 2nd Ave to the West 2nd Ave intersection and including a right turn lane on West 2nd Ave. Additional construction includes clearing and grubbing, pavement removals, class 10 excavation, storm sewer, water main, sidewalk, pavement markings, traffic control, signing, erosion control, and surface restoration. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Iowa Code Section 26.8 and as specified by the governmental entity, as security that the successful bidder will enter into a contract for the work bid upon and will furnish after the award of contract a corporate surety bond, in a form acceptable to the Jurisdiction, for the faithful performance of the contract, in an amount equal to 100% of the amount of the contract. The bidder's security shall be 10% of the total bid amount including all add alternates (do not deduct the amount of deduct alternates), and shall be in the form of a cashier's check or a certified check drawn on an FDIC insured bank in Iowa or on an FDIC insured bank chartered under the laws of the United States; or a certified share draft drawn on a credit union in Iowa or chartered under the laws of the United States; or a bid bond on the form provided in the contract documents with corporate surety satisfactory to the Jurisdiction. The bid shall contain no condition except as provided in the specifications. Each successful bidder will be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to 100% of its contract price. Said bond shall be issued by a responsible surety approved by City of Indianola and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, and protect and save harmless City of Indianola from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvement caused by failures in materials and construction for a period of two years from and after acceptance of the contract. The guaranteed maintenance period for new infrastructure shall be four years. Work on the improvement shall be commenced any time after a written Notice to Proceed is issued, no later than June 3, 2024, and shall be completed as stated below. The Notice to Proceed will be issued after the preconstruction conference has taken place. The Contractor shall substantially complete the overall project within ninety (90) working days. Substantial completion, shall be defined as all utility, grading, backfill, topsoil, street, driveway, and sidewalk paving completed and fully open to normal traffic operations. Should the contractor fail to complete the work in this timeframe, liquidated damages of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) per calendar day will be assessed for work not completed within the designated contract term. The Contractor shall fully complete the project within ten (10) working days following substantial completion and notice to proceed when weather conditions allow. Fully complete shall be defined as surface restoration being completed and all improvements being ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete the work within ten (10) working days following substantial completion, liquidated damages of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) per calendar day shall be applied for each calendar day after the ten (10) working days is charged until the work is fully completed. The City of Indianola does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the jurisdiction.
