he City of Oak Creek is seeking proposals from professional restoration companies for restoration and repair services of a historic (circa 1840's) log cabin. The building is one of the oldest known cabins still in existence in Milwaukee County. The restoration and repair work will take place in 2024 at the property located at 8310 S. 15th Avenue (southeast corner of Forest Hill Avenue and 15th Avenue) in Oak Creek, WI. Trebatoski Director of Public Works (414) 570-5680 mtrebatoski@oakcreekwi.gov The work will include professional, long-lasting restoration and preservation of the historic log home, to include, but not be limited to: Remove rotten square logs from 10"-14" stack height; Install reclaimed logs from 10"-14" stack height with dovetail corners; Repair chinking where logs are replaced; Cut out and remove all failing mortar chinking; Install grip strip and backer rod as needed; Chink all joints between logs, around doors and windows where needed with log home sealant; Media blasting of exterior logs to remove failing finish, weathering, and fungus; Sanding/buffing of logs to reduce raised grain and pitting associated with abrasive finish removal; Pressure rinsing of home and surroundings to remove blasting debris/sanding dust; Disposal of all used media; Stain/Preserve log home by hand to maintain chink contrast; Apply Borate treatment in 10% solution, to include logs and window trim; Caulk all large checks with log home sealant; Other recommended work as needed and approved by the City.
