Renovation of a mixed-use development in Niles, Michigan. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility; and theater / auditorium.

This project consists of replacing steel ledger plates at the bottom of cantilevering brick walls (Approx. 40 LF). Remove brick coursings at base of wall to allow for adding through wall flashing and weeps to help moisture to escape. Temporary shoring of walls will be necessary during the addition of through wall flashing. Replace brick once flashing has been added. Insulate the underside or floor of the cantilevered space. Add necessary framing to accommodate a new pre-finished metal soffit. Bids shall be properly and completely executed on the Bid Proposal Form included within the Project Manual and submitted in duplicate. Bids shall be clearly marked as "Niles Community Schools, Main Entrance Security Improvements - Niles High School on the front of the submitted envelope. Each bid shall be accompanied by a sworn and notarized statement disclosing any familial relationship that exists between the owner or any employee of the bidder and any member of the Niles Community Schools board of education or the superintendent of the school district. 2. No bidder may withdraw their bid for a period of Thirty (30) calendar days after the date set for bid opening. 3. Public Act 517 of 2012 (effective December 31, 2012) enacted the "Iran Economic Sanctions Act", which prevents "Iran linked businesses" from bidding on a school district or ISD's request for proposals ("RFP"). This law requires that persons submitting bids certify that they are not an "Iran linked business," which is defined as either: a) b) A person engaging in investment activities in the energy sector of Iran, including a person who provides oil or liquefied natural gas tankers or products used to construct or maintain pipelines used to transport oil or liquefied natural gas for the energy sector of Iran; or A financial institution that extends credit to another person if that person will use the credit to engage in investment activities in the energy sector of Iran. 4. Niles Community Schools reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive any defects or irregularities in bids, and to accept any bid which is deemed most advantageous to the public interest. 5. The awarded contractor will be required to pay prevailing wage rates and provide certified payroll reports for this project. This project consists of creating a new secure entrance for the High School by adding a Security Office contiguous to the main entry vestibule that visitors must first enter before entering the school. Adjacent and connected to the new Security Office will be the new Vice Principals Office. Both new offices will be concrete block construction. Both offices have an existing east brick wall that will be covered with metal studs and drywall. Carpet square flooring and acoustical lay-in ceiling. New aluminum storefront door systems at the vestibule will be replaced. Technology improvements include but are not limited to card access, door position sensors, door release buttons, cameras, data drops, access point, PA system, etc. The existing main entrance video intercom and door release system is to be relocated to a temporary entrance to the west for the duration of the project's construction and once the project is complete they are to be permanently installed back at the main entrance. A temporary one hour fire rated wall is to be constructed down the center of the corridor to isolate the construction area from the rest of the school.
