The intersection of CSAH 6 (Mississippi Street NE) and CSAH 35 (Central Avenue NE) is currently a 4-way stop controlled intersection, located in the City of Fridley. Over the past several years, the intersection has experienced increased crashes rates. After reviewing the crash history/types and a number of improvement options, the project team has concluded that a compact roundabout is the preferred alternative. To assist with construction costs, the project team submitted an application through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding solicitation. Based upon the cost vs. benefit analysis of the proposed improvement the project scored very well and was awarded approximately $1.2M of funding. An added benefit of compact roundabouts is their ability to fit in narrow right-of-way spaces. Since this project has minimal right-of-way needs, Anoka County, in partnership with the City of Fridley, is planning to construct the project in 2024. Project is included Anoka County FY 2024-2028 CIP. As of September 9, 2024, per owner, design is complete. Construction will start no earlier than Spring of 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
