As of May 29, 2025, an engineer has been selected and this project is in the design phase. It is anticipated construction will start in 3rd quarter 2026. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The project scope includes engineering design for the demolition of existing T-hangars west of Runway 3 and the construction of new T-hangars near the aircraft tie-down anchors. The design of the new T-hangars shall include site and utility improvements. Environmental site assessments will also be performed for the new T-hangar site and the entire West Ramp area, inclusive of the development of the plan for the appropriate and necessary contaminated soil mitigation measures. The estimated construction cost is $7,000,000.00. The estimated construction cost is a rough estimate as the quantity and procedures for handling/mitigating contaminated soils is yet unknown. In accordance with Section 103D-304, HRS, the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), Airports seeks the services of qualified architectural and/or engineering firms to provide design services for T-Hangars and West Ramp Improvements, Hilo International Airport, State Project No. AH1051-23. These services are anticipated to be immediately required and will have a design contract completion time of approximately one thousand eight hundred twenty-five (1,825) calendar days from the Notice to Proceed. The contract will be a Fixed-price contract in accordance with HAR 3-122-136 with an overall contract time of performance of five years. Individuals or firms shall email a PDF file of their response to the attached written questionnaire which can be viewed by clicking on "Files." The PDF file shall be named as follows: "AH1051-23_DS_RFQ_Year.Month.Day_FirmName" and e-mailed to dot.air.engineering@hawaii.gov with the Year.Month.Day portion of the file name being in two digit format (example: 24.03.20). The subject line of the email shall be the same as the PDF file name to ensure that responses from all interested individuals or firms are grouped together when retrieving the emails. The HDOT will not be responsible for responses not being retrieved and evaluated for this project due to individuals or firms not having the correct email subject line.
