Update: The purpose of this project is to increase the effective volume and performance of the SSWRF anaerobic digestion system to meet biosolids permit requirements, provide efficient and reliable operations, improve safety, and improve digester gas production to help achieve District energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals; as recommended by the District's Biosolids Advanced Facilities Plan, in response to increase future loadings and primary sludge production. The scope of this project includes design and construction to provide new mixing systems for Anaerobic Digesters 9 and 11, and to covert one storage digester to an active digester. No significant operating budget impact is anticipated. Project costs impacted by higher construction costs related to additional project scope and design costs. Project is included Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Fiscal Year 2024-2034 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The purpose of this project is to design and construct a reliable, sustainable, cost-effective disinfection process relative to the new E.coli WPDES limits effective in 2024. Initial evaluations have determined that current disinfection methods (sodium hypochlorite), may not be a cost-effective or reliable method to meet the new E.coli limit. Design and construction of a new system is anticipated to provide that reliability while reducing the overall cost of treatment. The project scope includes the design and construction of a new disinfection process at SS. For the purposes of this project, it was assumed to be a UV disinfection system for flows up to 150 MGD, and sodium hypochlorite for flows above 150 MGD to be consistent with Alternate 3 from the 2050 FP. The improvements are anticipated to reduce the cost of treatment therefore reducing the costs to the operating budget.
