Update: This project will improve the reliability of the feeder cables and switchboards at JIWRF. In 2022, two sets of different feeder cables at JIWRF experienced insulation failures that needed emergency replacement. In 2023, one switchboard experienced an arc flash event that needed repair to operate the center tie of the switchboard. After the failures, a feeder cable age assessment was carried out that noted the majority of the feeder cables at JIWRF are at or nearing the end of service life. From this data, District staff determined many feeder cables are 30+ years old, which is in excess of or close to the expected useful service life (40 years). District staff determined all the switchboards in the project are 34+ years old, which is in excess of the expected useful service life (30 years). Age puts these assets at an increased risk of failure leading to power failure to process equipment and safety concerns. Project costs are increased for higher design expenses and changes to the scope to include eight switchboards.
