After the recent range closures and scheduling difficulties at Elk Neck State Park Shooting Range, construction of a public safety training center in Cecil County is necessary to adequately train Sheriffs deputies and reduce operating and travel costs incurred by obtaining firearms training at outside facilities. Scheduling of range time has become ncreasingly difficult due to multiple agencies vying for time at fewer facilities. This project will construct an indoor range facility with 25-yard pistol and 50-yard rifle qualification lanes with movable targets, a classroom, administrative and mechanical space. The build ng will include provisions to control noise. The project will also provide required utilities, access roads, parking, and other supporting site improvements. The i County has acquired the site. The project is currently in the planning phase. This project is included in the county’s fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program. As of December 3, 2024, further details regarding construction and completion timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
