The current overpass spans 105 feet across the main bnsf rail line. It is not ada accessible, nor does it provide access for bicycles. The steps Are steep and grated steel, presenting users with open ground visibility. The steep and exposed nature of the steps creates an unpleasant user Experience. The port of kalama has developed bustling waterfront recreation and commercial attractions, attracting a large volume of local Citizens and tourists. These customers are also attracted to downtown kalama commerce. This growing popularity has created a parking deficit, Especially for events and the busiest recreation/tourism months (april-september). Safe, attractive pedestrian access between the port of kalama and downtown kalama will spur economic development and tourist activity on Both sides of the railroad.
