The Elkhorn Boulevard Complete Streets project addresses safety and comfort concerns by upgrading an existing bikeway, installing intersection improvements, and implementing non-infrastructure programs. The segment identified for this project is Elkhorn Boulevard, from Watt Avenue to Don Julio Boulevard. This project will construct a Class IV separated bikeway, green striping, bus turnouts, an ADA-accessible bus stop, and close one sidewalk gap (930' total) on Elkhorn Boulevard between Cantel Way and Thomas Drive on the north side. This project includes signal modifications/ video detection and full ADA improvements at intersections. Additionally, the project includes key non-infrastructure investments to educate and encourage both adults and children on how to safely travel by foot or bike, or share the road safely as drivers. Programs include Safe Routes to School programming, adult safety education, educational community events, and broader community campaigns to encourage safe and frequent active transportation. Project is included Sacramento County's Fiscal Year 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
