The City of Kingsford will receive sealed bids for paving approximately 10 alley ways. All work shall conform to Michigan Department of Transportation specifications. The City anticipates that approximately 810 tons of bituminous asphalt paving will be placed along with approximately 6,500 square yards of crush and shaping. The city reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids in the best interest of the city. The bituminous mixture shall be mixed and placed in accordance with applicable requirements specified for HMA-4EL Bituminous Mixture in Division 5 of the 2020 Michigan Department of Transportation Standard Specifications. Penetration range for regular mixture shall be 58C to -28C. The hot plant mix bituminous aggregate surface course shall conform to the 2020 Michigan Department of Transportation Standard Specifications. The aggregate shall be crushed to the 20-AA Specification for the Mineral Surface. All material produced must be weighed on an approved truck scale and a copy of the truck tickets shall be given to a designated representative of the city of Kingsford. These tickets shall be the basis of payment to the contractor for all material produced, hauled, laid and compacted on areas designated by the city of Kingsford. Contractor shall perform bituminous base course crushing and shaping on designated areas. Bituminous base course crushing and shaping shall be in accordance with Division 3 of the 2020 Michigan Department of Transportation Standard Specifications. Payment for bituminous base course crushing and shaping shall be on the basis of actual measure area crushed, shaped, graded and compacted. Removing and disposing of excess crushed material to meet grade requirements shall be incidental to crushing and shaping. During the grading and shaping process, the contractor shall spread the excess material so that there is an even amount on either side of the alley way. Under no circumstances shall all excess material be graded to only one side. Contractor shall inform the City DPW Superintendent 30 days prior to doing the work in order to allow the city ample time to adjust all manholes, catch basins and valve boxes prior to placement of final paving course.
