The engineering firm of Gale Associates, Inc. completed an existing conditions assessment in December 2022, identifying the work scope of immediate needs with repairs that will be addressed under this contract. Those include new canopy roofing, asbestos remediation, and concrete masonry demolition, repairs and replacement. Additionally, per MA code review, alterations to toilet room partitions and railing replacement at the stairs, ramps and platform. The scope generally consists of the following masonry, roofing and miscellaneous metals work: Remove and replace front entry stairs; Replace metal stair treads at all exterior stairs; Repair areas of the existing platform's concrete waffle slab; remove and replace areas of the existing lab with new reinforced concrete structural slab; Apply coating to top surface of platform slab; Remove basement areaway windows and the surrounding brick and replace brick with reinforced concrete; Remove abandoned steam pipe located under the platform and its associated ACM insulation; Remediate lead paint on steel angles; replace truck bumpers; add bumper pads to metal highway guardrail; Disconnect and temporarily relocate HVAC units on canopy; Remove and replace canopy roofing; Reinstall HVAC units on new curbs; Replace all canopy downspouts; Modify toilet room entry doors, add toilet partition and change grab bars; Remove existing and replace handrails at front entry stair and accessible ramp; Replace steel mesh gratings at areaway vents; Paint face of platforms knee wall; prep and repaint existing guard railings; Install bird deterrence measures; Restore handicap parking striping and symbol paint and install signage; Remove existing and fabricate and install new decorative guard railings at front entry stair and ramp.
