The City of Greenville is assisting the Greenville Transit Authority (GTA) in Greenville, South Carolina, in soliciting bids from qualified contractors for the excavation, removal, and regulatory closure of two regulated underground storage tanks (UST), and one oil/water separator (OWS) located at the GTA property at 156 Augusta Street. The USTs are regulated by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES). One regulated tank contained diesel fuel and has a 20,000-gallon capacity. The second regulated tank contained gasoline and has a 10,000-gallon capacity. Both USTs were reportedly installed in 1987 and are registered under SCDES Permit #04359. The regulated tanks were in operation until the GTA ceased Augusta Street operations in September 2024. In addition, GTA is requesting the assessment/removal of two suspected USTs and one subsurface anomaly that was identified during a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey conducted by Probe Utility Locating (PUL) [GPR Screening Report, PUL, June 2023]. In general, and without limitation, the work to be performed under this procurement includes the excavation, temporary staging, and disposal of USTs, an OWS, related-soils and construction debris, as well as the backfilling of excavation areas with approved material(s), as called for in contract documents.
