Site work, new construction, renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Vidor, Texas. Conceptual plans call for the addition of a educational facility; for the construction of a educational facility; for the renovation of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
https://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/article/vidor-isd-bond-proposal-gains-early-approval-19890679.php Nov 05, 2024 The Vidor Independent School District's bond proposal has been approved, according to unofficial results. According to final unofficial results, 53.96% of the votes, or 5,215 ballots, came in for the proposition, while 46.04% of the votes, or 4,449 ballots, came in against the proposition. With voters' approval, Vidor ISD will take out a bond for $98.4 million, which will raise property taxes from $0.7983 to $1.06. Currently, they have the lowest tax rate among all school districts in Orange County. The increase will put them in the middle of the pack among other county schools. The $98 million is substantially more than the $25 million voters approved in 2005 and over $20 million more than the bond that was rejected in 2017. Bryan Brassard, a spokesman for the district, said the district is happy and thankful to the community for supporting this. "We are excited that we are going to be able to make improvements to the schools," Brassard said. "It's for our kids, and the voters see that we have needs at our schools and that it's what's best for our community, and we are excited that the voters have allowed this to happen." The bond will be used to make capital improvements to the district's outdated campuses. Brassard said these improvements are badly needed. "We are helping educate the future, and part of that is having great and improved facilities," Brassard said. "Thank you to the voters for giving us the opportunity to make it better." RELATED: Southeast Texas election results: 2024 General Election The district already has appointed a contractor to manage the project. The district plans to start on the elementary schools first. Brassard said the work should be completed in Summer 2027. Vidor Superintendent Jay Killgo said the district won't be taking out all $98.4 million at once, which should keep the actual tax increase down. However, in a worst-case scenario, the average homeowner would pay $7.08 per month in school taxes, according to Killgo. He also noted that the proposed tax increase would not impact residents 65 and older, whose property taxes are frozen at the age of 65. ______________________________________________________________ BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE AND SELL AT ANY PRICE OR PRICES THE BONDS OF THE DISTRICT, IN ONE OR MORE SERIES OR INSTALLMENTS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $98,400,000 FOR THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, ACQUISITION, RENOVATION, EXPANSION, IMPROVEMENT AND EQUIPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT, TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS: (1) CLASSROOM ADDITIONS, EXPANSIONS, RENOVATIONS AND RELATED BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS AND EQUIPMENT TO AND FOR EACH OF PINE FOREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, VIDOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, OAK FOREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND VIDOR MIDDLE SCHOOL IN CONJUNCTION WITH CLOSING THE EXISTING VIDOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS AND MAKING THE VIDOR MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUS INTO ONE SCHOOL CAMPUS FOR GRADES 6, 7 AND 8; AND (2) CLASSROOM ADDITIONS, EXPANSION, RENOVATIONS AND BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS AND EQUIPMENT TO AND FOR VIDOR HIGH SCHOOL This project is part of the school district’s bond that passed. Further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been released.
