Renovation of a municipal facility in Groton, Connecticut. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.

The City of Groton (the "City") is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced electrical contracting firms to provide services for the electrical switchgear replacement project. The City of Groton (the "City") is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced electrical contracting firms to provide services for the electrical switchgear replacement project (the "Project"). Background and Project Intent The main G.E. electrical switchgear at the Municipal Building is original to 1964 and in need of replacement. The switchgear is rated at 208/120vac and 4,000 amps, 4 wire w/ isolated ground. There are no motor starters; all loads are via fused disconnects. Existing disconnects ratings include the following (4) 600 amp three phase, (18) 200 amp three phase and (6) 100 amp three phase. There are several buss taps that will need to be transferred into the new equipment; (1) 800 amp three phase and (1) 600 amp three phase and (8) 100 amp three phase. Total recorded FLA has been recorded during heating season (electric heat) at 850 amperes. The G.E switchgear feeds the complete facility and is energized via a Russelectric closed transition ATS rated at 208/120vac and 3000amps. The Russelectric ATS has two electric sources; the local utility via an outdoor pad mount transformer and a 750kw/2500 amp standby generator. The project intent is to replace the existing G.E. switchgear with a new Main Distribution Panel. Capacity for the new MDP and distribution equipment should include future growth by the City. The location for the new MDP will be in the adjacent electrical room beside the ATS switch. The new MDP and additional equipment can be installed to allow transferring of loads to minimize impact to operations at the Municipal 2 Building via scheduled shutdowns. Once complete the old G.E. switchgear shall be removed. The project consists of installing new 208/120vac panels/load centers in the adjacent electrical room beside the Automatic Transfer Switch, transferring the existing loads from the G.E. switchgear over to the new equipment and removal of the original G.E. switchboard. Questions Regarding this project should be directed to William Robarge, 860-446- 4073, no later than October 16, 2024
