METROPOLITAN AIRPORTS COMMISSION Cam Bonelli By Cam Bonelli – Reporter, Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal Oct 15, 2024 Listen to this article 2 min Passengers can expect to see more gate improvements at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as it embarks on the final phase of its $242 million Terminal 1 overhaul. The Metropolitan Airports Commission and Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) began work this week on phase 3 of its largest-ever interior renovation of concourses and passenger gate areas after completing phase 2 months ahead of schedule. For the latest phase, gate improvements include new flight-information screens at every gate, new gate seating with power outlets, lighting, carpeting and refreshed Delta branding across gate areas in Concourses A, B, G and gates G1-6, G14, G15 and adjacent corridor areas. Additionally, new flooring and ceilings will be installed and the sky bridge that connects concourses C and G will be renovated. The first two phases included updates to concourses C, D and F including new carpet or terrazzo flooring, painting and wall enhancements, as well as new podiums, signage and seating in gate areas. CG CONNECTOR ULTRAexpand A rendering shows improvements to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's sky bridge connection from Concourse C to Concourse G through the final phase of a $242 million overhaul of Terminal 1. METROPOLITAN AIRPORTS COMMISSION Airport operations will mostly be unimpacted during construction, most of which will occur overnight. The update is part of the Airport Modernization Program, a 3-year initiativethat began in 2023 to upgrade six of MSP's seven concourses in Terminal 1 and 75 seating areas around Delta Air Lines gates. The MAC invested 75% of the project's cost ($182.5 million) and Delta is contributing the rest ($60 million). Work in Concourse F is mostly completed, and Concourse D renovations will be completed later this fall. Renovations in Concourse C will continue through the summer of 2025. The MAC expects to complete the Airport Modernization Program by the end of 2025. The MAC has several other improvement projects underway. This week the next phase of expanding Concourse G (between Gates G8-G13) started. In September, the MAC started a $263 million upgrade of Terminal 2. The Terminal 2 expansion includes adding 168,000 square feet with two new gates and passenger seating to the northern side of the facility. The expansion will also provide new concession areas and restrooms through the renovation, prompting a new request for proposals for restaurant and store opportunities for the first time in a decade. _______________________________________ Site Directions: Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport This project provides for the installation of lift stations, valves, and meter manholes to support the Runway 12R-30L glycol forcemain. This forcemain collects glycol impacted fluid from the Runway 30R and 30L deicing pads at Post Road and pumps it to the gravity sewers on the north side of Taxiway M to ultimately deliver it to the Glycol Management Facility. The goal of the MAC for the utilization of Targeted Group Businesses on this project is 13%.
