ACTA is a joint-powers authority created by the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach in 1989 to develop, finance, construct and operate the Alameda Corridor. Operations commenced in April 2002. The Alameda Corridor is a triple-track freight railway that extends 20 miles from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles. The two largest Class 1 railroads in the country, Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway operate on the Corridor serving the largest port complex in the nation.
