As of September 10, 2025, per the owner, this project is in the preliminary design phase, and there is no timeline for construction. An engineer has been selected. The County of Kings purchased the Avenal Courthouse from the State of California in 2023. The building is significantly underutilized and has remained in its previous state which consists of a courtroom, jury room, judge's chamber, open seating space, etc. Using general fund dollars for the design, the County intends to remodel the buildings by converting them to serve the public as a facility for various Kings County Departments It is the intent of the County to engage a consultant whom will provide professional services as described herein. However, the County reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate the RFQ process or negotiations with a selected consultant and begin a new RFQ process or defer the project. Nothing herein, or in the process, shall be construed as having obligated the County to pay for any expenses incurred by respondents to this RFQ or to the selected consultant prior to Board of Supervisors' approval and execution of a consultant services agreement.
