This project is intended to design various roadway improvements to increase safety for all ROW users on Alameda Avenue (SH26). Improvements include construction of multiple raised-curb medians between Eliot Street and Zuni Street, Tejon Street and Pecos Street. These medians will provide specific movement restrictions, prohibiting left turns and through movements from the side-streets but allowing specific left turns from Alameda Avenue at Decatur St, Dale St, Bryant St, and Alcott St. These median turn restrictions also allow the opportunity to provide safe pedestrian crossings across Alameda, including receiving ramps on both sides and at multiple intersections. In addition, a bulb-out curb extension will be evaluated at the Alameda and Yuma Street intersection to reduce the pedestrian crossing distance, reduce vehicle turning speeds, and improve the signal phasing and coordination.
