The City of Marathon is installing approximately 5,512 linear feet of 10" DR 11 HDPE piping and 14,866 linear feet of 16" DR11 HDPE piping via directional drill method of installation beginning at the City of Marathon Area 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located at 4095 Overseas Highway and continues running east ward to the Marathon Area 4 WWTP located at 5601 Overseas Highway where a point of connection is provided before continuing eastward towards the Marathon Area 5 WWTP. Work includes the procurement and installation of five 10" plug valves and six 16" plug valves, along with the necessary fittings to ensure proper installation. The Area 5 WWTP, located at 506 106th Street Gulfside receives a point of connection prior to the transmission line continues eastward up to the west side of the Vaca Cut Bridge in Marathon located at approximately 117th Street Gulfside where the transmission main will be capped off for continuation towards the Area 6 Wastewater Treatment Facility in the near future under a separate Contract. Installation of the piping via directional drill method is selected due to the large number of existing utilities both overhead and underground in the City of Marathon and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) right-of-way areas.
