Power Plant Inspection Specifications inspection on your Fairbanks Morse Model 38D8-1/8: o Initial Inspection (walk around) including: o Notate any visual damage or defect to engine and generator o Check oil level in sump and governor o Check water level in cooling system expansion tank o Check for oil leakage o Check for air leakage o Inspect water pump packing for leakage o Inspect coupling to generator flange bolts and foundation bolts for missing or loose fasteners or locking devices o Inspect log history for trending irregularities o Remove access covers and complete inspection of the following components: o Control racks of injection pumps o Injection nozzle opening pressures o Remove and inspect vertical drive spring pack wear plates and springs o Check upper and lower vertical drive gears and backlash o Check vertical drive radial bearing clearances o Check and set crankshaft lead o Check fuel injection timing Page 2 of 3 o Check upper and lower crankshaft thrust clearance o Inspect torsional damper and crankcase condition o Check lower crankshaft web deflection o High-Definition, Color Video-Scoping of the following components: o Intake manifolds o Scavenging Air Blower Lobe condition o Cylinders o Pistons Crowns o Exhaust manifolds o Removal of Selected Components including: o Remove, inspect for metal particles, clean and replace oil strainer elements o Remove two lower pistons, inspect interior liner condition and check adapters for leaks o Inspect removed pistons for wear and ring groove dimensions o Inspect external liner condition for possible coolant leaks o Inspect liner bore condition and wear o Inspect wrist pins, rod, rings, and bushings from two removed pistons o Inspect blower lobe clearances and flexible drive o Inspection of fuel and cooling piping and associated equipment o Complete re-assembly, check fasteners and test run engine (provided conditions permit safe operation)
