Bids from qualified firms to develop plans and specifications for construction of the Sandia Acequia irrigation ditch. Sandia Acequia Reconstruction Design The Pueblo seeks proposals from qualified engineering firms to develop the necessary plans, specifications, and cost estimates to support the future reconstruction of the Sandia Acequia irrigation ditch, which is located on Pueblo lands, and serves a vital function in providing irrigation water to the numerous fields and irrigable acreage within the Pueblo’s agricultural area. The Acequia is an asset of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, which will collaborate on and approve the design as meeting their conveyance requirements. Reconstruction will restore irrigation efficiency, improve water conservation, and enhance drought resiliency. The Pueblo intends to line the Acequia with concrete and reinstall the existing check gates, turnouts, bridges, and other infrastructure that currently exist on the Acequia. From the north to the south, there are three segments of the Acequia involved in the design/construction: the upper segment, earthen segment, and lower segment. See maps below. The upper and lower segments will be lined with concrete and the earthen segment will remain earthen lined for cultural purposes. The design should incorporate materials and structures that will minimize erosion at the transitions between the concrete-lined and earthen ditch segments. The design will also take into consideration the need to maintain the ditch roads on both sides of the Acequia. The roads will remain graded dirt. The eventual construction of the project will be funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) through a collaboration with the Pueblo, MRGCD, and the Bureau of Reclamation. Therefore, the winning proposal will produce the plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E assembly) sufficient to be utilized by USACE to solicit competitive bids for construction. To aid in the design, the Pueblo will provide a 2014 survey of the Acequia where it exists on Sandia lands that includes plan and profile details to support this proposed design effort. See an example page from the survey below. All available survey data, including copies of the field book notes, will be made available to the Pueblo’s selected designer. There have been very few changes to the Acequia since the survey, so it should still be reasonably accurate for design purposes.
