As of August 14, 2025, this project is soon to be permitting. An architect and a construction manager has been selected. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined however, construction is expected to begin January 2026 and be completed second quarter of 2027. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: 1. In accordance with O.R.C. Section 9.33, the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority (the "Port" or "Owner") is soliciting Statements of Qualifications ("Qualifications") for construction management at-risk services from qualified construction managers ("CM") for the Ore Conveyance Tunnel Modernization Project at the Cleveland Bulk Terminal located at 5400 Whiskey Island Drive, Cleveland, Ohio, 44102 (the "Project"). 2. The Project includes the rehabilitation, updates and maintenance on the ore conveyance tunnel infrastructure at the Whiskey Island facility, including steel framing and hoppers, tunnel interior steel coating (as needed), air handling equipment replacements/upgrades, dust suppression system, and improved interior lighting for maintenance and safety. The work requires taking the existing ship loader offline. Accordingly, most work will need to occur during the annual shipping shut down period from the middle of January to end-of-February. (Note: Certain components of the work for the Project, including procurement and installation of jet fans and electrical lighting, has already been performed by a separate contractor during the 2025 shutdown period.)
