The Madawanson Lake Dam is a rock-filled timber crib structure constructed in 1968, located approximately 59 km north of Highway 17 at Massey Ontario. A Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) access road branches east from Highway 810, which provides the sole vehicular access route to the dam site. The dam consists of a 58.22 m long by 4.57 m wide rock-filled timber crib, with a 4.27 m span stop log controlled bay near the centre of the structure. There is an overflow weir on both sides of the control structure, measuring approximately 12.86 m and 13.06 m long on the west and east sides, respectively. From the base of the crib, the dam has an approximate overall height of 3.658 m at the weir section. The dam is in poor condition and requires rehabilitation to extend the useful life of the structure. The rehabilitation work generally consists of the following: o Installation of cofferdam upstream and downstream of dam and temporary flow bypass. o Installation of environmental protection measures, including silt fence, siltation traps, and turbidity curtain. o Removal of timber planks on weir and existing stop logs. o Extension of timber sheathing with EPDM waterproofing membrane at stop log bay. o Fill existing timber crib and stop log bay to top with rock fill and level with clear stone. o Installation of imported impermeable clay core on the downstream side of the dam. o Installation of rock protection on upstream and downstream sides of the dam, and at the embankments. o Installation Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat on the surface of the overflow weir. o Installation public safety signage and bollard barrier at east end of dam. o Removal of cofferdam(s) and temporary works and restore the site.
