During the Bicentennial Vision process, residents and businesses prioritized the Sandusky Bay Pathway and public access to the waterfront as vitally important to the quality of life for the community. Consequently, the project titled Landing Park proceeded to conceptual design of the Sandusky Bay Pathway between Cedar Point Drive and the associated waterfront park on the former Griffing Airport site. With the regional, and even international, popularity of Cedar Point's indoor and outdoor sports facilities on that site and the resulting traffic congestion, it is important now more than before to provide safe connections for multimodal forms of traffic throughout Sandusky. Additionally, it remains important to ensure recreational opportunities are provided that would allow families to enjoy safe and equitable access to the waterfront. For many reasons, residents within the city and throughout Erie County have become very excited about the Sandusky Bay Pathway and The Landing since many have resorted to active outdoor recreational opportunities for their wellbeing over the past five years. Hence, the vision of a once-in-a-lifetime waterfront park through the natural coastal habitats within eastern Sandusky Bay with elevated views of the Sandusky skyline and waterfront access has been an enticing reality since the initial conceptual design for Landing Park was approved by City Commission in the summer of 2018.
