The work includes the construction of new curbing, limited drainage infrastructure, sidewalks, accessible curb ramps, gravel paths, signs, striping, the installation of a pedestrian warning device, and other related work. Contractors shall submit evidence of prequalification to the Town Clerk in order to receive an official bid package. MassDOT prequalification of contractors is required under the Highway Construction class of work with an estimated total contract value of $321,902.50. LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION The proposed transportation improvement project includes the construction of a short segment of sidewalk, pedestrian curb ramps and the installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon along both sides of Main Street (Route 113) in West Newbury. The pedestrian crossing enhancements also include gravel paths and traffic signal posts dedicated used for horse riders accessing the adjacent recreational trails. The work includes earth excavation, hot mix asphalt sidewalk, gravel equestrian path, granite curbing, minor drainage work, and other incidental work. All work shall take place between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:00PM unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. This work shall be bid on a unit price basis to arrive at a total bid price. The Contract unit prices shall include all labor, materials, equipment, and incidental costs required to complete the work. A separate allowance for police details has also been included in the contract.
