Reference Number 0000383206 The University of Colorado Boulder seeks architectural and engineering design services for the expansion of the Transportation Services Maintenance Facility. This project will begin as a study through Schematic Design and include a cost estimate at the conclusion of that phase. These final deliverables will be used by the university to assess the viability, schedule, and construction delivery method for the potential project. If the university chooses to proceed, these deliverables will serve as bridging documents for future design and construction phases. Depending on the delivery method selected, the university may amend the initial contract of the selected architectural and engineering team to include full design services. The existing facility lacks adequate space to support CU Boulder's maintenance operations for a mixed fleet of approximately 500 vehicles, including 27 fully maintained buses. The current four-bay configuration is insufficient for expanding technician capacity and does not provide the clearance needed to safely lift medium and heavy-duty vehicles or to service all-electric buses with roof-mounted battery packs. The project will include the design of two additional maintenance bays, which will require the removal of a modular unit currently attached to the west side of the existing facility. As part of the study, the design team may also evaluate a small number of offices within the existing bus service bay to determine together with the CU Boulder team whether they should be included in the final project scope. The selected design team will be responsible for delivering planning level designs, including site analysis, identification of zoning and code constraints, fabrication recommendations, and siting options for the proposed maintenance bays. The entire project site is located within the 100-year floodplain, with areas falling in both FEMA Zones AO and AE (refer to floodplain map and site boundary in the appendices). As such, it is anticipated that the design team will need to include a qualified floodplain engineer as part of their subconsultant team to address site-specific challenges.
