City Staff will not be available for questions, meeting, or tours the week of March 11, 2024. The City has worked with KDOT over the last seven years to construct a second access point to City High School. This required three separate TEAP studies. This new access point will be through an improved Loretta Ave. (now called Red Demon Dr.) intersection on US-50 Highway approximately one-half mile west of the intersection of 14th Ave. and US-50 Hwy. The construction of this second access point was awarded FY27 funds through KDOTs CCLIP as a Geometric Improvement project. Currently, this project is scheduled to be under construction from late 2026 through mid-2027. The construction of this second access point will significantly alter the traffic patterns at the intersection of US-50 Hwy and 14th Ave. The final TEAP study for the second access point included recommended future improvements at 14th and US-50 (Exhibit 1). Before moving forward with the recommended improvements, which include widening the highway and adding turn lanes, the City would like to explore alternative intersection configurations to make sure the most appropriate design is implemented. The following is a list of improvements that are anticipated at a minimum: o Construction of additional turn lanes in every direction. o Traffic signal improvements. o Additional westbound lane on US-50 Highway between 14th Ave. and Red Demon Dr. o Widening of 14th Ave. north and south of US-50 Hwy right-of-way. o The design firm will need to work closely with the Utility Companies to determine relocations, if necessary. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
