Lander University is soliciting bids for Horne Arena hardwood court repair, painting, and refinishing. *The value for this project is based on a financial range of $20,000 - $40,000. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document QUESTIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY: 06/02/2025 11:00 EST Any prospective offeror desiring an explanation or interpretation of the solicitation, drawings, specifications, etc., must request it in writing. Questions regarding the original solicitation or any amendment must be received by the Procurement Officer Contractor shall perform all service in accordance with the specifications as follows. 1. Specific Repair: o Approximate 10'x 20' area with water damage 2. Sanding: o Prior to sanding in Horne Arena, all seats must be covered with plastic. o Sand and prepare floor using MFMA-accepted methods (gum and debris to be removed before sanding), which may be found at https://www.maplefloor.org/; o Inspect floors to determine condition of each floor. o Use 100-120 grit paper for final cut. o Screen with 100-120 grit screen. o Vacuum thoroughly. o Tack with mineral spirits. 3. Sealing: o Apply MFMA approved oil-modified sport sealer using heavy weight T-bar, lamb's wool applicator (a clean applicator for sealer and separate finish must be used). o Finishing: o Apply MFMA approved Sport Poly with a heavy weight T-bar applicator, going with the grain of the wood applying a thin, uniform coat. o 600 sq. ft. per gallon. o Avoid leaving puddles of excessive amounts of finish on the floor. o Allow first coat to dry thoroughly (12-16 hours). o Abrade between coats of finish. Court Lining, Paint, and Logos: Lander University seeks a new logo and court paint scheme. Two options will be attached to the solicitation known as Base Example and Alternate Example (state of South Carolina shape at center court). Game line paint: Mark game lines that were identified on the floor prior to the sanding of the designated hardwood floor. All lines will be placed back on the floor unless Lander personnel have instructed the contractor of change. Lander will provide a scale version of the floor if changes are made. All masking tape should be pulled as soon as the painting starts to set and not allowed to stand overnight. Bona Court lines sport floor paint will be used and allowed to dry. Contractor must have the capability and expertise to paint scheme on wooden floors. Sanding: All hardwood floors shall be sanded with a heavy power-driven sander. For the first cut, the floor shall be traversed in both directions, going with the grain of flooring using No 2 1/2 (30-grade) sandpaper. Follow with No. 11/2 (40 grade) paper, then with No. 1/2 (60 grade), finishing with No. 2/0 (100 grade). All cuts should be made with the grain and rough or finish sanding on the diagonal will not be permitted without specific permission from Lander personnel. Particular attention should be given to each finishing cut to completely remove the coarser grit marks from the proceeding cut. Sanding machine shall not be moved more than two (2) boards at a time for each traverse on any of the four cuts. After sanding, screen disk abrading the floor with a rotary buffing machine. On this last cut, use a floor buffer fitted with a fine paper or a fine screen disk, (100 -120 grit), and sand the entire floor to blend the circular cuts of the disc sander with the drum sander cuts. Once completed, all court lines should be removed from the floor. After sanding, the contractor shall thoroughly vacuum the floor with heavyduty commercial type vacuum and request inspection by Lander personnel before any finishing work can begin. Sealing: After sanding, floor shall be thoroughly swept and vacuumed. Tack-rag the floor with a Turkish towel dampened with mineral spirits until no traces of sanding dust remain on the floor. With a clean lamb wool applicator, apply a liberal coat of Bona oil-modified sport sealer in a uniform coat. Apply first across the grain and then smooth the coating with the direction of the grain of wood. After the first coat is thoroughly dry (usually 12- 16 hours), the entire surface should be abraded. Floor shall be tack-ragged as outlined above and the second coat of Bona oil-modified sport sealer applied, working first across the grain and smoothing out with the grain. After 12-16 hours of drying time, the entire surface should be abraded in preparation for the court layout and painting. A lamb's wool applicator will be used to "cut in" around doors. Avoid leaving puddles and/or missed spots. If this does happen, contractor must correct the area within 48 hours. Sealing: The entire floor should be abraded with Bona Conditioning Pads or 120-150 grit screens. Floor must be vacuumed and tacked thoroughly after abrading. Finish coat to be applied within 24 hours. A lamb's wool applicator will be used to "cut in" around doors. Avoid leaving puddles and/or missed spots, if this does happen, contractor will be back to correct the area in 48 hours. Finishing: A walk through inspection by Lander personnel shall be performed 48 hours after completion of sealing. Corrections shall be made by Contractor within 48 hours. Safety Requirements: Coordination with Lander Electrical and Safety Department for electrical connections to Contractor's equipment is required. The contractor shall supply all necessary plugs and extension cords, be responsible for the safety and health of all his/her workers on the job and shall comply with all applicable provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Time of Completion: Access to the jobsite will be available twenty-four (24) hours per day 07/24/2025 to 08/11/2025. Contractor will contact the Lander Department of Public Safety if work will be taking place after 7:00 p.m. Prior approval must be obtained from Lander personnel for any modifications to these pre-set dates. Wood Replacement: Any recommendations for the replacement of wood flooring shall be made to Lander personnel for prior approval. Pricing for such a replacement shall be submitted on a square foot basis for approval.
