This work shall consist of all labor, supervision, material, equipment and services necessary and incidental for the excavation and grading for roadways and their appurtenances, and shall include all labor, supervision, material, equipment, and services necessary and incidental to excavate and remove all unsuitable subgrade materials below the established excavation limits, and/or as directed by the Engineer. Class 1-A Excavation shall be used in conjunction with Item 203- Geosynthetic Stabilized Subgrade Using Graded Aggregate Base, and Item 501 - Aggregate Base Courses - Graded Aggregate Base, when the Engineer determines that the pertinent subgrade materials are unsuitable. This item shall only be used as directed by the Engineer. Method of Measurement/Basis of Payment Class 1-A Excavation will be measured and paid for at the contract unit price bid per cubic yard. The payment will be full compensation for all excavation and hauling, blasting, formation and compaction of embankments and backfills, disposing of excess and unsuitable materials, preparation and completion of subgrade and shoulders except as otherwise specified, serrated slopes, rounded and transition slopes, and for all material, labor, equipment, tools, and incidentals necessary to complete the work. This work shall consist of all labor, supervision, material, equipment and services necessary and incidental for soil preparation, seeding, fertilizing, and liming as required for turf establishment. Turf Establishment shall be used to establish permanent vegetation. Over seeding work consists of applying seed and fertilizer to previously seeded and mulched areas where turf establishment has not been successful and where remulching is not necessary due to mulch remaining from the previous mulch application, in conformance with Section 705.03.09 of the Standard Specifications. This item shall be used at locations and to the limits as marked-out in the field, and/or as directed by the Engineer. The contractor is responsible to perform this site restoration work no later than four (4) weeks after placement of the final surface pavement (and its acceptance by the County), and/or as directed by the Engineer, and except as limited by the seeding seasons specified herein.
