Renovation of a water / sewer project in Port Huron, Michigan. Completed plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
The four (4) lake huron water treatment plant (LHWTP) vertical turbine rapid mixers are to be replaced with enw mixers, provided by GLWA. The two rapid mix basins in the south will follow as shutdown capacity permits in the low demand period starting October 2026. All pre-work associated with structural improvements to support the new, heavier mixers, electrical upgrade pre-work, etc., may be performed if it doesn't not require the shutdown of existing equipment. The mixers can only be taken out of service two at a time, and only during low-demand period of GLWA's operation, typically between October of one year and April of the next. The new mixers will be variable frequency drive (VFD). The new VFDs will be installed on the second-floor hot deck. In 10/26, four LHWTP vertical turbine rapid mixers will be replaced with GLWA-provided VFD mixers. Work on two south basins begins Oct 2026 during low-demand periods. Pre-work for structural and electrical upgrades may proceed without shutdowns. VFDs will be installed on the second-floor hot deck.
