Tree Maintenance and Planting The Town of Randolph has received funding from two different granting entities for maintaining/refurbishing six (6) existing downtown street trees and for planting nine (9) new trees. The separate scopes of work detailed in this RFP have many common elements and the Town is seeking a qualified contractor to perform all of the work covered by both grants. The owner of the project is the Town of Randolph. The Town will assign an individual to be the main point of contact with the contractor. Maintenance work - 6 existing trees (see Attachment A - Tree Rehabilitation Map), funding provided by the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry (a partnership between the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation and UVM Extension) Sawcut and remove approximately 16 square feet of concrete sidewalk (see list below for more precise dimensions at each site) at each of six existing tree sites which will double the exposed soil area. Care shall be taken not to damage any adjacent existing concrete sidewalk. If any additional sidewalk is damaged, it shall be repaired to the satisfaction of the Town. Compacted soil and existing subbase material will be removed to a minimum depth of 2 feet and to 3 feet, if feasible, at each tree site. Care shall be taken to avoid damage to existing tree roots and may require use of an air spade. A new soil and compost mix (see specifications below) will be placed at each of six existing tree sites. Watering bags (Gator bag or an approved equal) will be placed at each tree. Each of the six existing trees will be assessed and pruned by a Certified Arborist. New Tree Planting - 9 locations (see Attachment B - Tree Planting Map), funding provided by the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program via the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission New trees will be planted in expanded tree wells at sites where street trees were planted previously. Each of the 9 sites have either stumps or existing dead or diseased trees to be removed (see below for more detail). Sawcut and remove at least 16 square feet of concrete sidewalk at each of nine existing tree well sites which will double the exposed soil area (see list below for more precise dimensions at each site). Care shall be taken not to damage any adjacent existing concrete sidewalk. If any additional sidewalk is damaged, it shall be repaired to the satisfaction of the Town. At sites with existing trees or stumps, they shall be removed completely, avoiding damage to adjacent sidewalk panels. Compacted soil and existing subbase material will be removed to a minimum depth of 2 feet and to 3 feet, if feasible, at each tree site. A new soil/compost mix (see Technical Specifications below) will be placed at each of the nine existing tree sites. The contractor shall source the specified trees and will plant them as outlined in the Technical Specifications. Watering bags (Gator bag or an approved equal) will be placed at each tree.
