The RMOW is inviting qualified teams to provide design-build proposals for two new clear span bridges to replace the existing recreation trail bridges located over North Sproat Ck. (A-Frame) and Gin and Tonic Creek (Suspension). These bridges are a key part of the Rainbow hiking Trail in Whistler BC, see location map in Section 9. Both existing bridges are at or near end of life and require removal and replacement with new long lasting and low maintenance, free span bridges. Proponents are encouraged to align their designs with the areas recreational use and natural site characteristics while ensuring the efficiency of construction is well understood and managed within the constraints of the topography and access. Question Deadline 07/10/2025 at 4:00 PM PT Scope of Work (SOW) 1. General a) This project has a maximum desired value of up too $200,000 for all works including the design-build scope of this RFP. The successful proponent may be considered to provide a third bridge of similar size and scope in 2026/27 if budget allows. Proponents are to be mindful that cost scoring represents the largest evaluation component; b) Proponents must understand all reports and assessments provided in this RFP; c) A 50% performance bond will be required to the successful proponent. a) Both bridges to be clear span, clear deck width of 1.2m, railings shall be min 1.5m in height with three mid rails spaced evenly; _ Gin and Tonic (Bridge 1) length estimated at 13m, 997 m. elevation. Existing cable suspension anchors may be viable for reuse if desired _ North Sproat Creek (Bridge 2), length estimated at 16m, 898m elevation b) Bridge approaches must have vegetation, recycled timber or other extension that flares away from the bridge ends to protect and funnel users on to the bridge. Stairs or a ramp approach are both acceptable; c) A site survey is provided in Appendix A to facilitate design work. The new bridge alignments are both anticipated to be in the same general location of the existing bridges. Additional survey work is at the Proponents expense; d) Foundations, abutments, anchors, and structure design shal respect the geotechnical report provided as Appendix B. Any additional geotechnical investigations to satisfy the design engineers wil be done at the Proponents expense; e) Loading requirements shal be considered as use by pedestrians only. Snow load capacity shal be calculated using Appendix C using the elevations provided. Bridge design should allow for local heavy snow loading and melting with seasons; f) Designs offering integration with the surrounding environment and enhanced or unique aesthetic qualities that promote exceptional resort experiences are encouraged. Examples of design precedents are provided in Appendix D, al designs that meet the requirements within the RFP will be considered; g) Design shall ensure the bridge can connect to the existing trail at each end; h) All design work by the Proponent must be completed by a registered professional engineer; i) Materials should be very low maintenance, long lasting, and where possible sourced locally with consideration for environmenta ly friendly products; j) 2020 Engineered Bridge Report is included as Appendix E; k) 2024 Hydrological Technical Memo is available as Appendix F.
