The City of South Gate (City) is seeking a qualified Contractor that can successfully provide maintenance services for the Annual Sidewalk Maintenance Project. Services to be provided include cutting uplifted sidewalks, ramping uplifted sidewalk with asphalt, and site cleanup, in accordance with Local, and State requirements. The proposed work is classified as "maintenance work" and not considered a "public works project" under Public Code Sections 20161(c) and 22002(d), therefore formal bidding is not required. The City strives to repair and replace damaged sidewalks throughout the City to improve walkability and eliminate vertical displacements. Damaged/uplifted sidewalks, with more than 1/4" lift, have been repaired in the past using various methods such as grinding and asphalt ramping. The City has identified preferred methods for making long term and/or temporary repairs to concrete which involves asphalt ramping and concrete cutting to correct the uplift and make the surface level. These method of repair complies with all American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The City has identified sidewalk locations that need to be ramped with asphalt, and locations that can be corrected with concrete cutting. The work will focus on one area/zone of the City to minimize travel time between repairs. A list of specific locations will be provided to the contractor each week to provide time for the contractors to plan and if necessary post no parking signs.
