Renovation of a fitness / recreation center in Bourne, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the renovation of a fitness / recreation center.

**As of August 25, 2025, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for the award has not yet been established.** The scope of the project consists of renovation to the Clean Harbors Athletic Center natatorium to provide a new Helicopter Underwater Escape Trainer (HUET), including but not limited to HUET and Hoist; structural framing; new overhead door; and Electrical Improvements. Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000. Exterior wall dampproofing is assumed to be present and is presumed to contain greater than 1% asbestos (asbestos containing material) and greater than or equal to 50 parts per million PCB-containing material (PCB bulk product waste) and requires abatement. Impacted exterior brick and wall substrate also requires disposal as PCB bulk product waste. A. The intent of the Work is to remove assumed Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) at the Site to accommodate proposed renovation work. The Asbestos Abatement Contractor (Contractor)shall furnish all labor, material, supervision, construction tools, transport vehicles and equipment necessary to perform the following: 1. Perform all work necessary for the removal, packaging, transporting, and disposing of asbestos containing materials (ACM) and asbestos-containing waste materials (ACWM) impacted during the Gym HUET project (the "Work") to occur at the Alumni Gymnasium located on the Massachusetts Maritime Academy campus in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts (the "Site"). 2. Work shall be performed by a MADLS-licensed Asbestos Contractor (the "Contractor") with certified Asbestos Workers and Supervisor(s). Training shall be in accordance with MADLS Regulation 453 CMR 6.00. 3. Provide documentation of worker training, respiratory protection and medical examination. 4. Provide access, support and protection to all authorized visitors and inspectors. 5. Filing of and/or obtaining all required notifications, permits, alternate work plans, work plans and payment of all required associated costs and fees. 6. Work area preparation and work practices. 7. Proper removal, packaging, transport, and disposal of all asbestos containing materials as specified herein. If applicable, note that vehicles transporting bulk-loaded demolition debris containing a reportable quantity (greater than 1 pound) of asbestos shall be properly placarded in accordance with USDOT regulations. All drivers shall be appropriately trained and licensed to transport this material. 8. Isolation of the Work Area for the duration of the work so as to prevent asbestos contaminated dust or debris from passing beyond the isolated area. B. Materials requiring abatement do not fall into one of MassDEP's exemption categories for nonfriable exterior ACM. These materials must be abated within a negative pressure enclosure unless a non-traditional asbestos work plan is submitted to, and approved by, MassDEP. The Contractor is responsible for all fees associated with creating the non-traditional asbestos work plan and having it approved. C. The Contractor shall be responsible for all demolition work required to properly access all assumed asbestos materials for abatement. All ACM, Asbestos Containing Waste Material (ACWM) and impacted demolition debris shall be disposed of as asbestos. D. It is the Contractor's responsibility to determine the most efficient method to legally perform this Work. Unless specifically noted, this Specification does not dictate specific methods to be implemented in the performance of the Work. The entire application of all ACMs shall be removed. E. The Contractor shall assume all assumed asbestos building materials also contain regulated concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Damp proofing material and expansion joint caulk is assumed to be behind the building's exterior brick walls and will require abatement if discovered. F. The Contractor shall perform all work in accordance with these specifications, the USEPA and OSHA regulations, NIOSH recommendations, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and Massachusetts Department of Labor Services (MassDLS) regulations, and local statutes, local ordinances, local codes and any other applicable federal, state and local government regulations and guidelines. G. The Contractor is advised that paints and/or coatings existing at the site may contain lead. The Contractor shall at all times be in compliance with OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1926.62 Lead in Construction; Interim Final Rule as well as other applicable regulatory requirements and other applicable portions of the contract documents. Refer to Section 02 83 00 Lead Hazard Control for further information. A. Work Included: Provide labor, materials and equipment necessary to complete the work of this Section, including but not limited to the following. Requirements for materials, hot-dip galvanizing are included with each item as applicable. 1. Miscellaneous steel framing and supports: a. Galvanized steel framing and supports for overhead doors. 2. Heavy duty threshold. 3. Metal Trim. A. Work of this Section includes specialty equipment as scheduled in this Section and as indicated on the Drawings. 1. Helicopter Underwater Escape Trainer (HUET). 2. HUET hoist. 3. Rubber flooring A. Work Included: Provide labor, materials and equipment necessary to complete the work of this Section, including but not limited to the following: 1. All Work of the following sections: a. 260001 ELECTRICAL WORK b. 260500 COMMON WORK RESULTS FOR ELECTRICAL c. 260519 ELECTRICAL POWER CONDUCTORS AND CABLES d. 260526 GROUNDING AND BONDING FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS e. 260529 HANGERS AND SUPPORTS FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS f. 260533 RACEWAY AND BOXES FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS g. 260548 VIBRATION AND SEISMIC CONTROLS FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS h. 260553 IDENTIFICATION FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS i. 262200 LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS j. 262419 MOTOR CONTROLS k. 262813 FUSES l. 262816 ENCLOSED SWITCHES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS 2. Firestopping for the Work of this Section, including cutting penetrations and firestopping; complying with requirements specified in Section 078413 - PENETRATION FIRESTOPPING. 3. Core drilling for the Work of this Section. 4. Certified seismic restraints to meet the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Building Code applicable at the time the building permit is issued. 5. Coordination drawings and record drawings and similar requirements. B. Items to Be Installed Only: Install the following items as furnished by the designated Sections: 1. N/A. C. Items to Be Furnished Only: Furnish the following items for installation by the designated Sections: 1. N/A D. Related Work: The following items are not included in this Section and will be performed under the designated Sections: 1. N/A E. The Electrical Contractor shall be responsible for filing all documents, payment of all fees, and securing of all inspections and approvals necessary for the electrical work.
